Just one of those crazy things that sometimes may work - if you're having issues w/ the E.I. box, try sanding on the firewall to make sure it's got a good ground.
And keep a spare voltage regulator ($20), a ballust resistor ($10) and a fuseable link ($5) in your glove box. They've come in handy for me twice so far.
